58-E4800 in use. Although the direction in which the maximum Energy is transmitted at right angle to the face of transmiting transducer, it is possible to detect pulses which have travelled through concrete in other directions: adjacent faces (semi-direct transmission) or same face (indirect or surface transmission).

Velocity of mechanically generated pulses through concrete mainly depends on its elastic properties. Ultrasonic method can be used for assessing concrete quality establishing homogeneity (internal cracking, defects, deterioration due to freeze/-thaw cycles) and estimating concrete strength. Ultrasonic waves create no damage in concrete elements, making it a good method for monitoring concrete over a long period of time.
