Air content test is typically required for checking air-entrained concrete in areas where frost-related damage can occur. Air-entraining admixtures added to the concrete mixture create uniform and stable air bubbles in the fresh concrete. These voids will allow water to expand during freezing phase without damaging the hardened concrete. The measurement can be performed by water-column method (Type A to ASTM C231) or pressure method (Type B to ASTM C231).
